Criffel (569m) 2nd June 2010

Criffel

The car was parked in the walkers’ car park at Ardwall, at the bottom of the hill, and Chris and I started the ascent at 12.40 pm. It was a sunny and breezy day, and the mist that hung over Criffel was clearing. It was a pleasant ascent on the track through the forest at the bottom of the hill. The track was well made and clear and there was a small work party improving it. It became boggy but was clear all the way to the top. The summit was marked by a large cairn and a trig point, and we reached these at 1.50 pm. We had a late lunch here and admired the view. This was partially obscured by mist but we could see the Lowthers and the Lake District hills across the fog covered Solway Firth. We began the descent at 2.15 pm and retraced our ascent route back to the car. We reached the car park at 3 pm, a total of 2 hours 20 minutes for the whole walk.

I`ll have to do this hill again as the usual mist was down around the summit on my previous visit.
Couldn`t see a thing :)

Yes, it's a lovely hill. There was mist on the top when we started but this had largely cleared by the time we got to the top. It's a hill I would definitely climb again.
